The Christmas Click That Cost Delano Everything
The Christmas Click That Cost Delano Everything
By Tracey Williams | YoWAD Tech – We Build, You Grow.
It was two weeks before Christmas. The lights were twinkling, hot cocoa was steaming, and Delano was online hunting for last-minute gifts. Then like magic, the deal appeared, 70% off, free shipping, and a countdown clock that screamed “Hurry before it is gone!”
Delano did not think twice. Add to cart. Enter card number. Click Buy Now.
Five minutes later, his phone buzzed with a fraud alert.
“Did you just make three charges in Singapore?”
Delano’s holiday spirit turned into panic. That one innocent clicks, on a website without HTTPS, opened the door for cybercriminals to steal his credit card details.
Most shoppers do not notice whether a website says HTTP or HTTPS in the address bar. But that single S can mean the difference between safety and disaster.
✅HTTP sends your data in plain text, easy for hackers to intercept.
✅HTTPS, on the other hand, encrypts your information, like locking your card numbers,
passwords, and addresses inside a digital vault.
Without this encryption, Delano’s personal details were left exposed like gifts on a front porch with no security camera.
During the holidays, it is prime time for online theft. Between flash sales, banking apps, and late-night purchases, we are more connected, and more vulnerable than ever.
Before entering credit card details or passwords, always:
✅ Check the social apps and websites you use are protected by HTTPS.
✅ Only use social apps or websites that start with
“https://”, not “http://”.
✅ Avoid clicking “deals” from random emails or apps social media ads without HTTPS.
✅ HTTPS is not just for websites, it is also for social apps or any platform with sensitive user information.
If a site is not secure, do not shop there, no discount is worth a drained account.
For business Owners, your website or app, HTTPS is more than just a security feature, it is a trust signal.
At YoWAD Tech, we develop every app with HTTPS encryption, because protecting your customers’ data is protecting your brand’s reputation.
A week later Delano received his new card, and a tough lesson. Now, before he shops or banks online, he double-checks for HTTPS.
Remember this holiday season, the smallest letter on your screen could be the biggest shield for your finances. Stay safe and Shop smart.
And make sure every click you make, and every site you own, carries the lock that means security, trust, and peace of mind.
